ZIMMERMANN RESORT 24
Known for its lavishly embellished clothes, Zimmermann – Australian brand founded in 1991 by sisters Nicky and Simone – remains true to itself also for Resort 24 collection, which takes inspiration directly from the dresses worn in the European dance halls during the 1950s. “Old photos of 50s dance halls were the starting point for our Resort season. I loved the movement of the big skirt twirling, the toughness of the boyish rolled sleeves, the clashes of style. I read a great piece about the dance hall being the place that so many people of the era found love. The local hall - an exciting, almost rebellious place that someone could express themselves and connect - the matchmaker of the time” Nicky Zimmermann said.
This influence translates into fitted bodices and bouncy A-line skirts, as well as – of course – colorful floral prints, precious embellishments and explosions of ruffles and frills. The clothes’ texture is soft and light, thanks to fabrics such as silk linen organza, with a semi-sheer finish, and cotton. Barkcloth floral prints and checked coordinated sets are styled with jewelled rolled sleeve shirts and micro-shorts injecting Zimmermann’s playfulness, while pencil skirts with exaggerated hip shapes give an ultra-feminine charm when worn with cashmere sweaters.
Bandana placement prints deliver a suite of signature party pieces that are made for fun. Full circle skirts buoyed by petticoats meet bodices in the season’s vest-shape, tied with rope belts in bows. Cloud skirts are hand gathered, with corset waists and low tank scoop necklines in Zimmermann’s signature florals.
Although one of the brand’s main focus is on dresses – both mini and maxi – there are also many options of blouses and shirts, rigorously characterized by blouson sleeves and jewel buttons, as well as co-ords made of top and skirt or blouse and shorts. A separate mention goes to swim suits, part of the Resort Swim 24 collection: just like in the main collection, also here the attention is on frills and decorative prints, that, now for over 30 years, make Zimmermann a unique and unmistakable brand.
