Christian Louboutin’s story begins in Paris, when – at the age of ten – the future designer bumps into a prohibition sign at the Museum of African and Oceanic Art, which forbade women to wear stiletto heels. This episode had a huge impact on the young Christian, who was raised with his three sisters and already had a certain familiarity with the feminine universe.

At the age of 16 he started working at Folies Bergère, one of Paris’ most famous music-hall, where – as a self-taught shoemaker – he began creating sheoes for the dancers. Then, it was in 1991 that after refining his talent more and more, Christian Louboutin opened his first Parisian boutique, the first of many achievements.

It was shortly after his first opening that Louboutin had that brilliant idea that would become his greatest distinctive feature, recognizable in the whole world: the red sole. While working on a prototype he was not very satisfied of, he noticed his assistant painting her nails red. It was in that moment that he had a stroke of genius: Louboutin took the nail lacquer and started painting red the entire sole of the shoes he was working on. The result was love at first sight, so much that since then the iconic red sole characterizes all the brand’s footwear.

Today Christian Louboutin is one of the most loved shoe (and bag) brand in the world, thanks to the fascination that exudes from each one of his creations. The most popular models? The Kate pumps, inspired by the top model Kate Moss and characterized by a pointed design and a stiletto heel.
