THE STORY OF THE GUCCI JACKIE BAG

THE STORY OF THE GUCCI JACKIE BAG

It’s the queen of the iconic bags, the one that – season after season – never goes out of style: we’re talking, of course, about Gucci Jackie, which has become, throughout the years, a real symbol of the Florentine maison. The one who first consecrated it to success was the one from whom the it-bag takes its name, Jacqueline Kennedy. It was 1961 when the American first lady – who was an absolute style icon – was photographed with Gucci’s latest arrival under her harm: it was love at first sight, so much that the bag ended up being dedicated to her and renamed The Jackie.

Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s former creative director, was the one who rediscovered the Jackie, bringing it back into fashion in recent years, on the occasion of the Autumn Winter 2020 Men’s fashion show, when he proposed the bag in three different sizes: mini, small and medium. The chosen name? Jackie 1961, a strong tribute to the maison’s heritage. The style of the new Jackie is faithful to the brand’s archive codes: the typical hobo shape, the piston closure and the fine fabrics are fully-fledged a recall to Gucci’s tradition.

From the evergreen models in black and white leather to the new ones in GG Supreme fabric with Web trims, today the Jackie – much-loved by the current creative director Sabato De Sarno as well – can be carried by hand, under the arm or across the body, evolving yet remaining true to its origins. And it’s thanks to this timeless appeal that, still today, Gucci Jackie remains one the most loved bags ever, capable of elegantly telling a story longer than sixty years.
