STELLA MCCARTNEY: 15 YEARS OF THE FALABELLA BAG

Stella McCartney: 15 years of the Falabella bag

Stella McCartney celebrates the 15th anniversary of its most iconic bag, the Falabella tote bag, a revolutionary model that changed the standards of luxury world thanks to its being entirely vegan. Since its debut in the Winter 2009 collection, the Falabella has been completely crafted without leather, but with the same handcraftsmanship, quality and durability as animal products. Since its debut, this it-bag has become a real vehicle for innovation, evolving with and embodying Stella McCartney’s cruelty-free mission.

Handcrafted by Italian artisans, the Falabella reflects Stella McCartney’s leadership in sustainability and material innovation, revisited seasonally in industry-shifting regenerative, recycled and lower-impact technologies. The brand’s main innovations include next-gen alternatives to animal leather such as MIRUM®, a plant-based, plastic-free and fully circular material, VEGEA, which uses grape by-product from Italian wineries and YATAY®, made from a mix of agricultural waste and recycled fibres. Moreover, every Falabella bag features a monogrammed lining made of ocean plastics and is hand-laced with organic cotton rope, a process that takes over three hours.

Stella McCartney’s love for animals originates in her childhood, that she spent in the British countryside. It’s here that Stella discovers her passion for horses: the Falabella bag, indeed, is named after her favourite species of pony.
Therefore, the story of the Falabella is the story of Stella, who, since 2001 – the launch year of her brand – has been the first one to create a luxury brand without ever using leather, feathers or furs.
