DESIGNER FOCUS: AMIRI

We are currently witnessing a whole new rock ‘n’ roll Renaissance. Distressed and overdyded garments, classic rock clothing and merchandise, just to name a few,  have contributed to give life to trends galore since forever. Hailing from the 80s and 90s subcultures, the style was revived in contemporary menswear by pathfinders of the likes of Raf Simons and then grew increasingly into a massive trend with Jerry Lorenzo, Hedi Slimane and Kanye West. Amid popular names, not a long ago, one above all was to blame for taking Hollywood rock club culture up a notch, straight up to the level of Haute-Couture: Mike Amiri.

Not sure about what to do after college, Mike Amiri enrolled in law school. Myth says the latter was located in the Fashion District in Downtown LA. Strolling around during breaks, the designer-to-be seized the opportunity to reawaken his lifelong passion for denim, for he used to customize his own jeans in his earliest days. Regular visitor of vintage shops since childhood thanks to his parents, Mike Amiri basically spent his whole existence getting ready for this major role. Falling in love with every kind of tear, rip or stain, until he reached the point where he knew exactly what authentic details meant.

Currently hitting retailers and selling out at the speed of light, the LA-based fashion house is reaching the pinnacle thanks to its fresh made-in-California punk-luxe. Born and fed in the Sunken City, Mike Amiri and his namesake label have nothing to do with trends. The man here, he is simply translating his passion and lived experiences into clothing: signature ripped flanels, distressed jeans, shredded tees and stained denim cover-ups bring a personal -thus unique- vision of LA streets all over the world. The result is 80s-flavored wearable Cali Vibe, imbued with European lust. Effort and commitment justify the incredibly soft pieces. Finishes and details are so much important that Amiri even invested in his own wash-house. The quality of AMIRI’s clothing beats many well-established Houses. Now, even though his designs are stocked worldwide, each item comes in limited stock.
