GUCCI CRUISE 2024:THE SYMBOLS

Unveiled in the extraordinary location of Seoul’s Gyeongbokgung palace, Gucci Cruise 2024 collection combines the brand’s artisan heritage to a future-oriented stylistic vision with a modern and urban attitude. However, between tradition and innovation, there are some style codes that – remaining true to themselves – fully-fledged mark the brand’s identity.

The first one? The iconic GG monogram with diamond motif, created during the early Sixties as a recall of the initials of Guccio Gucci, founder of the historical maison. Initially used for suitcases only, soon the GG fabric was put on handbags too, until today, where we can find it on an incredibly wide selection of products.

Then, we have the unmistakable Web motif, often proposed in its more classic version, the green and red one created during the Fifties. The inspiration comes from the equestrian world. At the beginning of his career, Guccio Gucci worked as a porter at the Savoy Hotel in London, frequented by the English nobility, very fond of horse riding: the “Web” recalls, indeed, the accessory used in the equestrian sport to keep the saddle in place.

Another symbol of equestrian inspiration is the Horsebit, that today embellishes many shoes and bags, such as loafers and the Horsebit 1955 shoulder bags. The Horsebit is inspired by the accessory which helps to guide the horse, that Guccio Gucci knew very well. Once again, at the time of Savoy hotel one of his main activities was that of creating saddles and other accessories for horseback riders, from where he got the idea of this now-iconic symbol.

Finally, as regards prints, it is impossible not to mention Flora silk print, created for the princess of Monaco Grace Kelly at her personal request in 1966. Designed by the illustrator Vittorio Accornero, the print includes 37 colors and a wide array of flora and fauna, such as daffodils, poppies and butterflies.
